This year’s theme, Above & Beyond, reflects how WestJetters support progress across the industry from lifting each other up and mentoring future leaders, to fostering a positive workplace culture and prioritizing safety while caring for colleagues and guests. Representation plays a critical role in inspiring the next generation of talent, and women across WestJet help open doors for more young women to pursue careers in aviation.

As part of the celebrations, WestJet and Sunwing operated eight flights crewed entirely by women, on International Women’s Day, showcasing the skill, professionalism, and leadership of teams across the organization. WestJet teams are also engaging with students and future aviation professionals through events at post-secondary institutions, offering insight into career paths and connecting students directly with industry professionals. Employees are encouraged to recognize women making an impact through programs such as the Northern Lights Aero Foundation “Elsie” Awards, celebrating Canadian women who contribute to aviation while paving the way for others. Marina Piccioni, COOP & Gift Card Director, Marketing; "Aviation is all about connection, bringing people, cultures, and opportunities together. I’m proud to be part of an industry where women are helping shape the future, and I’m passionate about encouraging others to step forward, lead boldly and open doors for the next generation.” Colleen Channer, Manager - Development and Performance YYZ – Inflight; "A people-focused leader, I am passionate about mentorship and creating visibility and representation for everyone on my team. I began my career in health sciences, but after discovering aviation 16 years ago, I quickly caught the aviation bug. Now 11.5 years with WestJet, I’m dedicated to helping others develop, succeed, and see themselves reflected in leadership. As women in aviation, it’s so important that we celebrate each other’s achievements and continue lifting one another up. The sky isn’t the limit, it’s just the beginning. “Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.” _ Maya Angelou"
Marie-Josee Carriere, Sr. Manager, Marketing; "The aviation industry has evolved considerably, and I am proud to be part of this journey. I am continually inspired by the women on the front lines and behind the scenes who hold key roles throughout the organization and lead with resilience and by example. Building a strong community and nurturing relationships with my peers, grounded in collaboration, trust and respect, is central to my day-to-day work. Through an inclusive approach, hard work, mentorship, mutual support and open communication, the sky truly is the limit. The growth opportunities within this group and across the travel industry are helping pave the way for the next generation of women leaders."
Sandra Dos Santos, Sales Centre Operations Director; It’s incredibly inspiring to work alongside so many strong women in travel and aviation who lead with authenticity and courage. Every day, I see leaders who challenge the status quo, bring their true selves to the table and create space for others to rise. When we support and empower one another, we not only strengthen women in leadership today but also help open doors for the next generation of women leaders all the while shaping a stronger, more inclusive future for our industry. Later this spring, WestJet’s Technical Operations team will participate in SAIT’s Jill of All Trades Aviation event, introducing young women to aviation careers and showcasing the meaningful work happening across the industry. WestJet continues to recognize progress, invest in future talent, and build an aviation industry where women can thrive, this month and beyond.
